Brumbies for Brindabella
Paul Phelan, 8th January 2009
Cowra-based Brumby Aircraft Australia is on a roll with its nippy little two-seat Brumby trainer. Brindabella Airlines Managing Director Geoff Boyd, who is now launching a full-time commercial flying school at Canberra, has already taken delivery of one Brumby, is very happy with it, and is hoping to add another to his fleet soon.
“It will be our first full time commercial pilot school, and we’ll be starting the first course in February. We’ll be concentrating on locals rather than overseas students, and we expect to run overlapping courses to accommodate more students, especially if we can get more Brumbies. There are quite a lot of young people from around Canberra and we have some coming from Sydney. We’ll have 10-12 students on each 12 month course. There’s a straight commercial where you can drop out and go look for a job flying a tourist aeroplane, or a ‘job-ready’ CPL where they do ten hours in a Cessna 210 instead of an Arrow, so they have some experience to help them find employment at places like Kununurra, the NT or Cape York. Then an instrument rating takes another three months and they can finish it off in the Navajo. Some are taking the straight CPL option but most going the whole way.”
Congratulations to the team at Brumby Aircraft Australia on another great success! For more information on the Brumby, visit: http://www.brumbyaircraft.com.au
